The Abiquiu Public Library is now a passport site for the Old Spanish Trail. Abiquiu was a “jump off” point, meaning it was a last chance to get dried foods (meats, nuts, etc.), water, and so on before the long trail ahead. The library has a date stamp as do other sites along the trail to show when people arrive at certain points that may have been significant to the trail system.
The new children’s’ books from the LIBRI Foundation are now available for check out. The library will have a book sale during the Santa Rosa de Lima festival in Abiquiu on August 27th.
On August 20th, there will be a free concert for children and youth at the Abiquiu Library. It is the second program of the Abiquiu Chamber Music Festival’s program called the summer Community Youth Outreach where violinist John Graham will talk about his instrument, demonstrate, perform, and speak about his life as a professional musician. New pieces for viola and prerecorded electronic sounds have been written for him. Call the Abiquiu Library at 505-685-4884 to sign up for the event as space is limited to 35 due to room size. Parents and elders are welcome. More information about the program is available from the Abiquiu Chamber Music Festival at 505-685-0076.
