Please join us for an Abiquiu Public Library fundraising event continuing to publicize the Bridges to Islam library grant awarded this year. A public screening of “Koran by Heart” hosted at the Yurt in Abiquiu will begin at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 24th followed by bread and soup provided by the Abiquiu Muslim Community!

In this 80 minute documentary, three ten-year-old children travel from their native countries of Senegal, Tajikistan and the Maldive Islands to participate in the annual International Holy Koran competition in Cairo, Egypt. All of the competitors from everywhere in the world have memorized the 600 pages of the Koran.

The film unfolds a beautiful and sensitive tableau of the children and their families, and their uncertain futures at home as they are caught between fundamentalist and moderate interpretations and visions of Islam.
